What You Need to Know About Boarding Your Pet
At Grand Pet Care Center in Santa Ana, CA, one service we offer is caring and compassionate boarding for both cats and dogs. This comes in handy for pet owners who work long hours or plan on traveling for a few days. Boarding a pet for the first time can feel a bit overwhelming, but our veterinarian near you can walk you through the process, and here are some basics.
Types of Pet Boarding Facilities
There are several options for owners looking to board their pet, and there are often a few requirements.
Dog Kennels
Dog kennels are the most traditional boarding for canines. These give them plenty of space to get cozy, and dog runs are offered to keep them active. This option is ideal for owners with aggressive or unfriendly dogs and smaller pooches that are timid. Our staff takes them on walks several times a day, and there is a group dog park area where more social dogs can play.
Before we can take your canine in for boarding, you will fill out a questionnaire about any health issues, medications, food preference, and the dog’s overall demeanor. When onboarding your pup, you will need to show proof that they are current on vaccines that include rabies, DHPP, and Bordetella.
Cat Boarding
Our cat boarding facilities let cats enjoy cozy individual bungalows or suites that they can occupy alone or with any of your other kitties. Our dog and cat areas are separated, so your feline won’t be scared by barking and howling canines. Like dogs kept here, cats also have access to group areas with a sunroom if they are friendly.
We also have lounging areas with windows where cats can observe animals like birds and squirrels. When onboarding kitties, you will need to have them fixed if you want them around other cats. Other requirements include being up-to-date on their rabies vaccinations. We also ask you to show proof that they have been given a snap test, which quickly checks for FeLV, FIV, and heart worm for the protection of other pets.
